Program Description

Short-Term Residential Crisis Services provides partnership and integrated planning with police and crisis response outreach teams; short-stay (7-10 days) residential setting with supportive counselling to provide stabilization; and an alternative to custody when dealing with people in need of non-medical crisis intervention in a residential setting. The goals of the service are to reduce the number of people with mental illness entering the criminal justice system and emergency room care; and to reduce the number of people with mental illness entering the correctional system and/or decrease time spent in the system. The model of service is individualized according to the needs of the client.

Access Information

This program serves individuals with a serious mental illness who are in crisis and are at risk of accessing emergency hospital care or of being incarcerated or coming into contact with the police; or individuals with a serious mental illness who require an address to facilitate a release on bail. Adequate information must be available to make an appropriate risk assessment. Individuals must be able and willing to follow the house rules. Individuals need to be voluntary.
