Type of Service

Diversion and Court Support

Program Description

Court diversion is a comprehensive cooperative venture between the criminal justice system and the mental health system to provide direct services to individuals who have a serious mental illness and have been charged with a minor offence. Criminal Justice Intensive Case Manager works with individuals, who are at risk of being charged, have been charged or sentenced and whose mental illness can be managed in the community. Model of service is psychosocial rehabilitation and crisis.

Access Information

Court diversion referral can be made by self-referral, referral via courts, or clients identified by diversion worker. Criminal Justice Case Manager's referrals can be identified via court diversion, court, or criminal justice system. Please note that in terms of program capacity, we subscribe to benchmarks outlined by the Ministry. However, many of our services are above these benchmarks due to the fact that we are the sole rural mental health provider in our area. We do not cap our programs at a particular level. Rather we would filter clients to a complementary service if they could not be placed on a wait list.
