Program Description

Early Intervention for Psychosis Program supports individuals who experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Through early diagnosis, treatment and support, this program endeavours to minimize the impact of psychosis upon the individual's level of function and works to promote enhanced health and well-being. Services include a comprehensive assessment, referral to appropriate community resources, and ongoing case management support for a maximum of three years. Through a client centred approach, the EI team provides instruction about such topics as medication management, symptom management, and recognition of behaviour patterns. The program is designed to assist individuals in their pursuit of participation in such areas as scholastic, vocational and social activities. Individual and group programs provide instruction in areas like daily living skills, social skills and peer related recreational and leisure events. Recognizing the importance and therapeutic value of family support, the program strongly encourages family involvement. Education and guidance is provided to the individual as well as to their identified family members. Increasing general public awareness is also an ongoing goal of the program.

Access Information

Individuals who are experiencing early psychosis and who have not received previous treatment for psychosis or have not received treatment for psychosis for more than six months prior to entering the program. Referrals can be made directly to the Canadian Mental Health Association - Windsor-Essex County Branch by fax, mail or in person.
