Type of Service

Support Within Housing - Mental Health

Program Description

Supportive housing provides flexible, strength-based and barrier-free supportive housing for people diagnosed with a mental health condition. This support is founded in respect, dignity, hope and collaboration. The goals are: to assist people to live as independently as possible; to assist people to participate in the community; to provide supports to minimize stress, manage illness and prevent crises and hospitalization; and to provide education and support to enable people to develop and maintain skills and relationships. Special preference for 8 units designated as forensic units, geared towards lowering the probability of the tenant being in conflict with the law. Ninety-four (94) one bedroom head leased or referral agreement units through private landlords. Eleven (11) residential properties with a total of 33 units.

Access Information

The individual must be diagnosed with severe mental health condition as determined by a professional. All clients approved for supportive housing must be willing to accept supports from CMHA HKPR or another approved agency to be eligible for supportive housing. Tenants for CMHA Supportive Housing units are selected by a Tenant Selection Committee using a fair and concise five level priority based system. Selection is therefore based on need and not necessarily by chronological order of application. Application is through the Intake and Brief Services Worker.
